Author Spotlight: Lou Garden Price, Sr.

Updated: May 6, 2023

Here at URBAN AINT DEAD, we like to put a spotlight on our authors and let them shine. This will allow our readers to get to know some of your favorite authors more personally and even get an inside scoop about the making of some of your favorite UAD titles.

Today, in celebration of his newest release, Hittaz 3: Contract Killaz, we asked Lou one question:

"If you could name three books that influenced your writing style the most, what would they be and why?"

And this is what he had to say:

"The three books that influenced my writing style most was:
The Holy Bible; Dopefiend by Donald Goines; and Where The Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls.
With the Bible it just gave the world something to live by because Jesus Christ was sinless. I am a TRUTHOFGOD.COM follower. Check out the Gino Jennings telecast on YouTube!
The power of the Bible and its meanings urged me on with my writing. Then I came across Donald Goines and his 16 books. That’s when I first thought about being an Author. Dopefiend, Whoreson, Black Gangster… DAMN! He wrote some gritty, authentic shit.
Aside from Donald Goines, as a child, I think what had planted a writing seed was Wilson Rawls’ WHERE THE RED FERN GROWS, and SUMMER OF THE MONKEYS.
I can’t point to any single book that made me want to be an Author. I think it was a combination of books and different types of books that gave me the range I developed. I mean it was Donald Goines, then Sidney Sheldon, then romance novelist Danielle Steel, Robert Ludlum, Harold Robbins, Jackie Collins, and a whole bunch of autobiographies.
I can go on and on regarding the subject but that’s about it. See you next month. Til then, be easy."
