Black Resolutions Matter

We’re six days into the new year and some of us have already started our 2024 resolutions for the umpteenth time. Creating and following through with these resolutions takes dedication, courage, and strength. Most times, we don’t reach our highest potential because of fear, anxiety, and stress.

Urban fiction and Black Culture are mixed through music, movies, radio, and literature - I’ve accumulated a list of our favorite artists and creators who are all about their hustle and moolah, but understand the importance of self-help, self-esteem, and mental health.

1.) The Gucci Mane Guide to Greatness by Gucci Mane

Not only did Gucci Mane give us bangers like ‘So Icy’ and ‘Lemonade’ he’s now giving us motivation and wisdom through his guide to the top.

2.) Shook One: Anxiety Playing Tricks On Me by Charlamagne Tha God

CTG, respectively, goes into depth about anxiety and its effects on our decisions and our lifestyle. He also suggests handling your mental health sooner rather than later.

3.) Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson

50 Cent invites us into his personal life and describes how he became a man with so much money, power, and respect. Through tough lessons and legit advice, he explains to his readers how to shoot back at the enemy - fear.

4.) Ladies First: Revelations of a Strong Woman by Queen Latifah

The Queen brings us as readers onto her journey to self-discovery, depression, finding God, and claiming riches. “With Ladies First, the queen who lives within all of us will rise.”

In the words of Nipsey Hussle, “Been grinding all my life. Sacrificed, hustle paid the price. Want a slice? Got to roll the dice.”
