Reading books has been one of your favorite hobbies and now you’re thinking about breaking into the literacy world and starting a career, but you don’t know where to begin. Here are some tips to help you get started.
.) Tap into your favorite social media. There are various social media platforms like TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook - It’s important to master at least one platform to curate your brand and name. When first starting, it’s important not to become overwhelmed with attempting to execute on each social media. One platform at a time.
.) Create your blog. Building and designing your blog may sound terrifying, but there are many rewards. Blogging allows you to create a space to showcase your work and writing skills. Book reviews, recommendations, interviews, etc. A blog will show that your work is intentional.
.) Network and collaborate. Meeting new people can be nerve-wracking, but stepping out of your comfort zone will help you in the long run. While on your social media platforms, interact with your followers. Find people who share the same interests. Join a book club or buddy read. Write on each other's blogs. Find a mentor in the book community. Not only does this allow your platform and business to grow, but you’re also making meaningful and professional relationships.
.) Remain authentic. It’s easy to get caught up in your peer's platform and obsessed with followers. But if you’re remaining true to yourself and your brand - followers, money, and opportunities will naturally happen. Post with meaning and purpose. Your audience knows what’s real and what isn’t.
